Part 3 of "Grateful for a Handy Husband"

There is a light at the end of the tunnel!!  Ryan has been very busy the last couple of days finishing up the outside of the house and sheet rocking the inside.  He is out trying to match paint as we speak.    He ended up cutting bigger holes in the sheet rock, just so it lined up with the rafters and 2x4 running down the walls.  His next challenge is to actually find paint that matches.  He thought he had enough left from when we originally painted, but we don't....go figure.  He found one of the original cans, thank goodness, but I had them "qweek" the original paint a little when we did it.  So there are a lot of markings on the top of the can to tell what was added, but some of the those markings are a little harder to read then the others.  Anyway, I hope he is able to match it.  The pictures below are of what things currently look like.  He is getting very close!!!!

Part 2 of "Grateful for a Handy Husband"

 Well we will be starting week number 4 of roof repair on Monday.  What a Pain!!  Although, I have to admit, it really hasn't been my pain....more so Ryan's pain!  Ryan had a roofer come by on Tuesday and help him replace shingles and put up some paper on the outside wall.  I am sure they did a lot more stuff, but I was gone when it was all happening, so I am really not sure what they did.  Apparently our house has NO wrap around it....we discovered that as Ryan tore off the siding.  Siding and plywood, that is it! But after some research, I guess it wasn't mandated when the house was built....SERIOUSLY!!  It is now, for new homes being built.

So anyway....I was going to get some pictures of Ryan tearing the siding off, but he had most of it down before I got home, and then finished while I was still at school.  So I have after shots, of what "Should have been done" when the house was built.  The darker shingles are not wet, they are the new ones.  And the black paper along the upper wall is all new.

  Ryan is now working on getting some new siding to replace the ones he took off.  But the funny part is, it the original siding has been discontinued, so he is trying to find something close.  We still have the hole on the inside, right behind the front door.  Ryan is waiting to make sure the leak is completely fixed before he starts to repair the inside.

Grateful for a Handy Husband!

We have been living in our home for almost 9 years.  It was BRAND NEW when we moved in.  About a year or 2 into it we discovered that we had some kind of leak behind our front door.  We talked to our contractor and he sent one of his "Sub-contractors" down to look at the roof.  The kid said that he hadn't built our house and wasn't very familiar with it.  He helped Ryan "kind of" fix the roof and then left.  We never heard another word, from either the contractor or the sub-contractor.  Since then Ryan has tried to fix the problem.  Over the years he has gone into the attic on many occasions to seal the roof and wall.  He has even done it from the outside. It has been about 5 years since we have had any problems with the leak.  We thought we had it taken care of.  Well we had a huge rain storm about 2 weeks ago.  I got up Monday morning, and went to leave for work and found a HUGE water bubble about 1/4 the way down the inside wall, behind our front door.  I was sick!!!  Ryan was not here, but when he got home, he popped the bubble and began to tear into the wall.  As he torn into the Sheetrock, he discovered that it was completely soaked!  This is what we now have....

Last week he spent every minute he could, before the next storm came in, trying to re-route the water coming off the upper roof.  He put up new rain gutters, re-sealed the roof, etc.  He then watched the inside, as the storm came, only to discover that it is still leaking.  So....we now have to hire a roofer to come and help us fix it.  HOW STUPID, if only it had been done right when the house was built!  I was talking with the roofer on Thursday, and he said, "We are going to be aggressive about this and do it the way it should have been done in the first place."  That is all I needed to hear.  Hopefully we will be able to get it fixed!  I am aware that our contractor initially was or still is an IDIOT!  With other problems we have had in the past, as well as our neighbors....whose house was built by him as well.  There are 3 homes in our cultisac that have been built by him, and we all have had leaks of some sort!!!  WHAT AN IDIOT!  And now we have to pay for his mistakes!  Once we get the outside fixed, Ryan will be able to fix the inside...which I am very grateful for! 

Halloween 2010

We had a pretty crazy Halloween.  I only have 3 pictures....very sad!  The babies loved to dress up in their bee costumes.  We had to practice a few times before the big day.  When it was all said and done, they only made it to Great-Grandma and Grandpa Barfuss' house.  I guess we will to hit a few more houses next year.  However, the big girls made out with a ton of candy.  Rylie wanted to be a vampire....without any blood, and Sydnie was Alice in Wonderland.  She kept telling me that her hair was just like Alice's.

 

Last Camping Trip of the Year

 We went on our last camping trip of the year, back to where it started this summer.  We made it back to Devil's Creek Reservoir, over UEA weekend, with Ryan's family.  We were trying to make it to Chesterfield, but didn't make it that far.  I didn't get many pictures....the ones that I did get were of the kids on "Ariel's Rock."  I family named rock.  The rock is actually up Malad Summit, and it was beautiful up there, too bad we all look we've been camping for 3 days!

 We saw this moose the first night we were there.  It bedded down right by our camp.  Over the next couple of days, we watched it leave the willows and go up the hill.  Then it would come back at night.  Kinda Crazy!

 

Now we have to do the crappy part of camping and that is cleaning out the trailer and winterizing it....until next spring!
